Q&A For Family Sessions | Utah Family Photographer | Amber Prusse Photography

Family Session Q&A.jpg

Should I do a mini session or a full session?

I offer two different kinds of sessions. A mini session is 15-20 minutes long and includes 10-15 digital images. These are great if you want a couple of pictures of your family and one of each of your kids! We get that Christmas Card, everyone looking at the camera shot, a shot of mom and dad together, a sibling shot and a pic of each of the kids. It is super quick and easy!

If you are looking for something a little more in depth, with lots of sweet candid moments, and multiple shots of everyone, different spots in the location, then a full session is for you! They last about an hour and include 40+ images for you to enjoy. I love doing full sessions, because it is so relaxed! If one of your kids’ needs a break, we have that time to move into a different setting that will help the kiddo calm down. I love having the time to get the special moments with mom and dad. Mom and Dad get their own little mini session without the children to help spark some romance! We get to play games, get mommy and me moments captured with low stress.

How do I dress my family?

Great question! I have a blog post all about that! Check that out here!

What’s a good time to start the session?

This all depends on location. But generally, I like to start sessions in the evening about 2 hours before sunset. So in the summer, that can be around 7 pm, in the winter, around 3:30/4:00. If we go up in the canyon, we would need to start earlier to make sure we get the sun before it goes behind the mountains. I also like to make sure we schedule a time that works for your kids. I definitely don’t want to do pictures during nap or bedtime.

What if my kids are maniacs?

I want you to know, that your kids are not as bad as you think they are. It’s a little awkward being expected to stand still and look at a lady you don’t know and smile. Which is why, I love playing games before we start. And I let the kids run the session. If they aren’t ready for the “Grandma Picture,” we will run around, make some silly faces and just let them get to know me and have fun with me so that we can have fun! I also, always bring treats to help earn their trust and hopefully get status of coolest picture lady ever! A fruit snack goes a long way ;)

How long until I get my photos back?

I know you are so stoked to see your family photos! Which is why I deliver sneak peaks with in 24 hours of your session! Generally at the end of your session, I will go home, pick out 3-4 of my favorites from your session and then text them to you! I love it when you post them right away and show off your cute family. It takes 1-2 weeks for me to carefully edit your photos and deliver them to you via an online gallery. From then, you can download them onto your computer and then print them for you to cherish forever!

Can I print them wherever I want?

Yes. I do offer professional printing services, but I do allow you to print wherever you please. Although I would highly recommend NOT printing at Walgreens, Walmart or Target. My favorite place to print is through www. ProDigitalPhotos.com . They are a local print shop here in Utah County and also ship! They calibrate their machines often which means the photos will have the accurate coloring that I intend them to have!

Do I need to think of my own poses? Or find my own location?

The answer is yes and no! As a professional family photographer, I have a workflow of poses that I go through that ensures that I get all the combinations of people and all the classic poses. I will get everything that I need and then we will have some fun experimenting with candid prompts. At the end of the session, I will ask, is there anything you would like to do? Any requests? That way if you have anything you want to try, we get those in! But you absolutely do not need to come up with your own ideas.

Location wise, I have sooo many locations here in Utah that I have found and love. I have different ideas for almost any situation. I love shooting in different studios, up in the mountains, at lakes, in the city and also in your own home! I will usually ask you what kind of vibe you would like, and I will suggest a couple of ideas that will fit that! But that being said, I will always welcome new ideas! If you have a specific location that you are hoping for, I am all for it!
