How to Dress your Family for Photos |Utah Family Photographer

You realize that it's been a few years since you have done family photos. So you schedule them, and realize OH CRAP! I HAVE TO ACTUALLY GET MY FAMILY DRESSED AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO WEAR!!

Trust me, I feel ya. I have been there and I want to help! So here are some tips to help you dress you and your family to look amazing.

1. Think about what colors are in your home. I, myself have neutral colors in my home, so I want the pictures I put on the wall to reflect and coordinate with the color pallet. So my family and I in light neutral tones with a kick of contrast. Another friend of mine loves bright and bold colors in her home. So she will love the bold mustard yellows, bright blues and pinks and that will look awesome on her walls!

2. Choose neutral colors like tans, grays, whites, and creams as a base for everyone and then add a pop of color if you want. I find it so much easier for families to stick with basic colors because they are easier to find in the closet already and in stores! KEEP IT SIMPLE! But also, do not get too matchy matchy. Days of the white shirt and blue jeans have long past! And I want to keep it that way ;)

3. Patterns are great. In moderation. If you choose to have patterns such as florals, stripes, or polka dots, make sure there are solid patterns to compliment. Example! Mama wears a floral dress, dad wears a solid colored shirt and khaki pants, and baby boy wears a patterned shirt with solid pants with a cardigan or sweater. This keeps it not as busy! Also, if you are going to wear patterns, avoid tiny busy patterns. They don't photograph as well.

My favorite places to shop for clothes for me are Poppy and DotJessa Kae, and Wren and Ivory. I am obsessed with their selection of dresses. They are so flattering for all shapes and sizes. I also found my last dress for family photos on Amazon. So check that out for sure!

I love shopping at Old Navy and Target for my kiddos.

I am always posting outfit inspiration on my Instagram stories, so be sure to check out the highlights if you are stumped.
